Crafting Versatility: Festival Hall in La Norville, France

Architectural Collaboration for Multifunctional Excellence

In the picturesque town of La Norville in Essone, France, Figures Architectes and Depeyre Morand Architectures join forces to create a versatile marvel – the Festival Hall. Completed in 2023, this collaborative project aims to serve as both a village hall and a private event space, embodying the essence of multifunctionality.

Innovative Design: Harmonizing Volumes

The Festival Hall unfolds as a harmonious blend of three volumes strategically arranged on the plot. Two parallel technical wings gracefully encase the main hall to the north and south. Positioned to optimize natural light and scenic views, the east-west orientation allows the accordion-style glass façades to unveil captivating perspectives of the surrounding woods and fields.

Structural Brilliance: Melding Materials

The technical blocks to the north and south boast a robust cast-in-place concrete structure with an exposed facing. Internally, a post-and-beam framework delineates the hall, providing structural support for the forthcoming wooden covering that will envelop the volume akin to a town hall.

Aesthetic Finesse: Ornamental Accents

The Festival Hall showcases an intricate interplay of materials, featuring a pre-weathered standing seam zinc roof sheltering the wooden framework and timber-framed walls. Depeyre Morand Architectures contributes ornamental elements that define the architectural character. Hand-sculpted wooden columns grace the main hall’s two prominent façades, while tie holes resulting from concrete pouring become design opportunities. Customized glazed and colored ceramic plugs adorn these holes, adding a distinctive touch to the project.

Capturing Details: A Visual Symphony

The architects emphasize meticulous detailing, evident in the thoughtful integration of ornate features and the seamless marriage of concrete, wood, and zinc. The Festival Hall in La Norville emerges not just as a functional space but as a visual symphony where architectural elements coalesce to create a distinctive and versatile venue.

Through this collaboration, Figures Architectes and Depeyre Morand Architectures have given La Norville a Festival Hall that not only serves its practical purposes but also stands as a testament to architectural ingenuity and aesthetic finesse.
