Designed by Graham Baba Architects and completed in 2019, the Alaska Airlines Flagship Lounge at SeaTac International Airport redefines the traditional airport lounge experience. With a focus on inclusivity and comfort, the lounge offers travelers a welcoming environment inspired by the Pacific Northwest.

Redefining Lounge Typology

Traditionally, airport lounges were exclusive spaces catering to a select group of travelers. However, Alaska Airlines sought to create a lounge accessible to all guests, providing a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the concourse. Divided into four zones – Come In, Help Yourself, Take a Breath, and Cut Loose – the lounge offers a variety of experiences tailored to different needs.

Seamless Flow and Distinct Spaces

The lounge features an open layout with lightly separated zones, allowing spaces to flow seamlessly into one another. Each zone offers unique furnishings, acoustic properties, and lighting, ensuring that every guest finds a comfortable spot. From the approachable entry to the cozy bar atmosphere, the lounge caters to diverse preferences.

Inviting Entry Sequence

Guests are welcomed into the lounge through a spacious corridor adorned with oak frames and a fifty-foot-wide window offering views of the surroundings. The entry sequence culminates in a threshold with a view of the central fireplace, inviting guests to enter and unwind. Concierges greet guests from a sculptural wood desk, adding a personal touch to the experience.

Comfort and Flexibility

Within the lounge, guests can enjoy a range of seating options designed for both individuals and groups. High-backed banquettes, custom chaise lounge recliners, and movable tables offer flexibility and comfort. Help Yourself, the heart of the venue, features a central bistro counter surrounded by leather banquettes, reflecting Seattle’s coffee shop culture.

Unwinding at Cut Loose

Cut Loose provides a space for guests to unwind and connect with fellow travelers. The oval-shaped bar serves as a focal point, complemented by custom elements such as jet engine-inspired light fixtures and recycled cardboard screens. Local fabricators and artists contribute to the lounge’s West Coast heritage, creating a meaningful connection to the Seattle region.

In conclusion, the Alaska Airlines Flagship Lounge sets a new standard for airport lounges, prioritizing inclusivity, comfort, and local identity. By offering diverse experiences within a welcoming environment, the lounge ensures that every guest feels at home during their journey.
