Embracing Hybrid Services

To accommodate the varied needs of its patrons, Pang Mei Noodle Bar embraced a hybrid operational model, offering different services and menus throughout the day. Office AIO responded by devising a flexible spatial layout that adjusts dynamically. The interior space was cleverly divided to serve multiple purposes, engaging visitors and enlivening the surrounding area. Along the wide facade, a corridor was created to facilitate grab-and-go orders and window-side seating, attracting passersby and encouraging interaction.

Transformative Design Solutions

At the eastern end of the restaurant, Office AIO implemented a system of roller shutters that allows for seamless transitions between service modes. During off-peak hours, the shutter closes, enabling quick counter service. However, during peak hours, it opens to expand the dining area for full table service, accommodating more guests. This adaptability extends to the restaurant’s operating hours, with a seasonal ‘tapas’ menu introduced to cater to late-night theatergoers.

Fostering Community Engagement

Beyond its functional aspects, Pang Mei Noodle Bar serves as a hub for social gatherings and community interaction. Office AIO transformed the building facade with playful yet functional elements, such as long communal tables extending onto the plaza and bi-fold glass windows blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. A stainless steel canopy, reminiscent of Jeff Koon’s iconic sculptures, adds a whimsical touch to the courtyard, providing shade and visual interest.

Playful Interior Design

Inside the restaurant, Office AIO infused a sense of playfulness into every detail, drawing inspiration from traditional hutong furniture and Pang Mei’s culinary identity. Bespoke sling chairs crafted from rubber bands and cork, along with puck pendant lights, create an atmosphere of flexibility and warmth. Noodle-like padded cylinders adorn the walls, paying homage to Pang Mei’s signature dishes, while gradient fog mirrors add a touch of pop art flair.
