Renovation and Demolition

The farmhouse complex, divided into two parts, underwent a careful restoration process. While one section retained its authentic character, the other was repurposed into a fire station and slated for demolition to accommodate the new addition.

Design Concept

The building comprises three distinct sections: a transparent rift serves as a link to the main street, the existing farmhouse undergoes meticulous renovation, and the new building features a wooden structure with zinc cladding. The design extends into the garden, echoing the parcel’s historical layout with strap forms and Douglas wood from the Vosges forest.

Honoring Tradition: The “Liffol’s Chair”

At the heart of the design is the “Liffol’s chair,” an emblem of the village’s carpentry excellence recognized with a Geographical Indication (GI) in 2015. The architecture of the care home pays homage to this legacy, incorporating traditional craftsmanship in the structure and interior design. Spruce partitions and wooden furniture, crafted by local artisans and students, showcase the region’s rich heritage in carpentry, tapestry, and caning.

Collaborative Efforts

Furniture procurement involved collaboration between local manufacturers and professional schools to meet the care home’s specific needs while upholding quality standards. The collective effort ensures that the care home serves as a public testament to the craftsmanship and artistry of the “liffolois” chair, supported by organizations such as AFPIA- Ecole de l’ameublement and renowned furniture makers like Henryot &Cie 1867.
