Introduction

The KANEKA Wellness Center, nestled in Takasago, Japan, stands as a testament to Kaneka Corporation’s commitment to employee welfare and healthcare. With a corporate ethos prioritizing “wellness first,” the center serves as both a medical facility and a hub for employee well-being initiatives. Designed by TAISEI DESIGN Planners Architects & Engineers, with input from Kengo Kuma & Associates, the center integrates cutting-edge environmental technologies developed by Kaneka, fostering a holistic approach to wellness.

Integrating Nature

Situated amidst a neglected thicket adjacent to Kaneka’s manufacturing site, the center embodies a harmonious blend of architecture and nature. The design prioritized preserving existing trees, employing 3D scanning technology to identify and protect indigenous species while selectively removing invasive alien trees. Polyhedral roofs extend from the ground, seamlessly integrating the buildings into the verdant landscape, providing a serene environment for employees.

Environmental Technologies

The center incorporates a range of environmental technologies, including tile-integrated and transparent solar cells, and green roofs, seamlessly integrated into the polyhedral roofs. These technologies, coupled with Kaneka’s innovations such as external insulation and double ventilation systems, ensure energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Achieving Net-ZEB status, the center maintains a zero-energy balance, exemplifying its commitment to environmental stewardship.

Health-Conscious Design

Beyond its environmental features, the center prioritizes employee health and well-being. The interior boasts ample wooden materials, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, while expansive windows offer views of lush greenery, promoting a connection to nature. The facility hosts a range of activities, from cooking classes to exercise events, providing employees with opportunities to enhance health awareness and combat fatigue.

Recognition and Certification

The KANEKA Wellness Center has garnered acclaim for its health-conscious design and functionality. It has earned IWBI’s WELL Platinum Certification, underscoring its adherence to stringent standards for health and wellness in the built environment. Through its innovative design and comprehensive wellness initiatives, the center serves as a beacon of employee care and environmental responsibility, embodying Kaneka’s commitment to holistic well-being.
