Situated in the heart of Milland, near Brixen, Italy, Into the Wall House is a testament to architectural ingenuity and adaptive reuse, crafted by bergmeisterwolf architekten. Originally a chicken house nestled within a historic building, the structure underwent a profound metamorphosis in 2023, emerging as a haven for contemplation, meditation, and relaxation.

Embracing Continuity in Construction

The renovation and extension of Into the Wall House were guided by the principle of continuity, preserving the essence of the existing stone walls and plasterworks. Meticulously handcrafted, the new components seamlessly integrate with the old, enhancing the building’s identity while respecting its tactile qualities. Notable additions, such as the vibrant gutter and the black-pigmented concrete staircase, not only redefine the structure but also blur the boundaries between architecture and landscape.

Harmonizing with Nature

A striking feature of Into the Wall House is the concrete circle—a symbolic landscape element that invites introspection and connection with the natural surroundings. Positioned atop the stone foundation, the floating roof creates a captivating interplay of lightness and solidity, while untreated aluminum sheets add a touch of craftsmanship. The meticulously detailed eaves and vibrant door frames juxtapose against the rugged wall, accentuating its character and charm.

Crafting Intimate Interiors

Within the modest confines of 15 square meters, Into the Wall House offers a cocoon of tranquility and functionality. The interior is defined by an open OSB box, painted in soft pink, which serves as a multifunctional space encompassing a kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping area. Despite its compact size, the interior exudes an aura of spaciousness, fostering creativity, relaxation, and contemplation.

Into the Wall House stands as a testament to the transformative power of architecture, transcending its humble origins to become a sanctuary of serenity and solace. With its seamless blend of old and new, natural and man-made, the house invites inhabitants to immerse themselves in a world of introspection, creativity, and rejuvenation.
