Embracing Human-Centric Design
In the bustling heart of Ciudad de México, architect Javier Senosiain has orchestrated a biophilic masterpiece – the Cave Office. With an area of 202 square meters and unveiled in 2023, this architectural gem redefines workspaces by seamlessly blending natural elements with functional design.
Reimagining Space for Human Flourishing
Amidst the relentless pace of modern life, Senosiain’s Cave Office is a deliberate attempt to craft spaces that transcend mere functionality. Prioritizing the well-being of its occupants, the design envisages an environment where architects find solace and inspiration. It envisions continuous, welcoming spaces that facilitate the unrestricted flow of both space and emotions, fostering freedom, spontaneity, and creativity.
Liberation from Conventional Boxes
A departure from conventional glass-box structures, the Cave Office draws inspiration from diverse sources – the maternal cloister, animal shelters, troglodyte dwellings, and igloos. Senosiain’s vision is not a nostalgic return but a thoughtful reconciliation, creating spaces harmonized with the human body and its natural rhythms.
A Journey Through Dynamic Spaces
The office unfolds in two distinct zones, connected by a sinuous tunnel – one dedicated to private contemplation and the other to collaborative creativity. The workshop space boasts expansive work tables for computer-aided design and model crafting, fostering interaction and teamwork. The private area mimics cave-like cubicles and a circular meeting room, offering both seclusion and a communal spirit.
Harmonizing with Nature
In the quest to redefine the original rectangular prism, the architects introduced pine wood skeletons covered with thin strips, adorned with maple root veneer for walls, ceilings, and floors. Leather-clad furniture surfaces add comfort to the tactile experience. The result is a warm, illuminated cave that adapts to changing lights, creating a sensory journey through dynamic spaces.
Terrace Retreat and Urban Oasis
Connected to the workshop, a multi-purpose terrace beckons collaborators to unwind, dine, or work, providing a green haven against the urban backdrop. This intentional connection with nature reflects the desire to infuse urban spaces with elements of tranquility.
Illuminating Work in a Biophilic Haven
Living and working within the Cave Office transcend the mundane, offering an illuminated cave-like studio where sensory stimuli evolve throughout the day. It stands as a testament to Senosiain’s commitment to a biophilic approach, seamlessly blending architectural innovation with the innate human connection to nature.
